What's Up, Trannie?

The decision has been made.  I have been offered a full-time position with an imaging center in Huntsville, AL.   I have decided to accept the position and will soon be loading Mr. Ed the RV and heading west once more.  I have to move my camper, car, and Bob the Harley as well. In the interval between now and then, I must locate a campsite in Huntsville, finish cleaning the RV, Pack my clothes, and perform some necessary maintenance on Mr. Ed.  As a Transgender female, moving about the Southern States can be a bit intimidating.  Although I am accepted in most places, the laws change dramatically from one state to another. Cisgender straight people never have to worry about the difference in state laws, because they do not discriminate against straight white people.  I can remember going to motels in Alabama with my construction company in the late 70s and having them turn us down because our crew was mostly black. On several occasions, we ended up booking rooms in the "Colored" motels because they welcomed white people. That being said, some motels in Alabama lost major money for rejecting us.

Huntsville, also known as Rocket City, is located in the northern end of Alabama. It is only an hour and a half to Nashville. Tennessee.  I am looking forward to exploring the Redstone Arsenal and Rocket Park.

This will probably be my last job.  I hope so.  I now have to contact all my recruiters and have them pull my contracts.  that will be disappointing to some.  However, I am not getting interviews as much now.  probably due to my age.

Wish me luck.

just in case you missed it.  my picture is now on the cover of my book.  I also have a hard cover edition.

The Gene Pool has a shallow end. Where is Darwin?

My generation grew up running barefoot in cutoff shorts in the summertime. Drinking water out of a garden hose. If we wanted bottled water we had to find a coke bottle and fill it ourselves. but those were worth 3 cents each at the store. bought a lot of candy bars trading soda bottles for 3 cents a pop. we rode our bikes on dirt or gravel roads with no pads, or no helmets, when we wrecked em and skinned knees, elbows, and heads, we got painted with that orange medicine that stung like crazy, merthiolate, or mercurochrome. My kids got the Purple spray we used on the hogs. Nobody got a wound infection in those days. germs were scared of that orange stuff and purple stuff. There were no car seats for infants. and no seat belts or air bags, or padded dashes.

we played with Lawn Darts. we chunked Iron Horseshoes. we chased each other around the yard with croquette mallets. You had to be tough to survive those days, and only the tough did. looking around today, perhaps we have coddled people too much. We have taken Darwin out of the equation and natural selection is no longer working to improve the breed and thin the herd. If you get nothing else from this essay, get this. there are no lifeguards on the gene pool. It has a shallow end. The shallow end is getting larger...rapidly. if that does not frighten you, maybe you are standing in the shallow end.

I do have two short stories on Vella at amazon.com.  One is "God, Engineering, and Design", and the other is a true story titled "A Squirrel's Tale".  Please read them and leave a review.

As a transgender person, I stand firmly with my brothers and sisters on stopping discrimination against us everywhere. With that being said, the recent participation of trans people in high school and college athletic events has prompted me to make this statement. Male Or Female Born or Trans, the playing field has to be level. Biology does matter in some cases and to that we need to defer. I do not have a solution to offer but there has to be one. the playing field must be level and all must compete fairly. I do not think banning trans athletes from competition is fair to Trans people. Nor do I think having a biological male person compete in female sports is fair. There are too many differences in male and female anatomy that do not change with transition. Mark me, many things do change, loss of muscle mass, energy levels, stamina. All that goes away very quickly with the loss of testosterone. But the structural differences still remain. I am not posting this to create an argument. Please do not respond to this post with angry retorts. I am expressing my thoughts and opinions on the subject and they are subject to modification as more information becomes available. if you have an idea to level the playing field please put it out there.

Ooops. forgot something. Becoming Kimberly has a new cover.  Check it out.  My photo is now on the cover of the paperback, ebook and lookie here a hard cover.

It has been several years since I posted on this page.  Much has changed, but much remains the same.  I go by Rebekah now, rather than Kimberly, I had the final surgery on June 11, 2020, at Marin General Hospital in Marin County, California.  Life has been busy and I have traveled a bunch. I left Georgia in August of 2018 and took a travel contract in El Paso Texas. 15 weeks later, I was in Bishop, California on another assignment.  I stayed in Bishop until November 18, 2021, at which time I moved back to my home in Georgia. I found a part-time job in Tallahassee, Florida, and outside of a couple of short travel contracts, that is where I have been.  From watching my eldest grandson graduate with honors from High School, to my middle son's suicide, and my own heart surgery, there have been ups and downs. Sometimes the highs are not as high as the lows are low.
Writing has been labored and slow. and I am very good at procrastination.  I keep saying I am going to stop procrastinating but ah hell, I'll do that tomorrow.  Although I have 14 chapters written on Collision Orbit, I have hit a wall, so I have tabled that novel for a bit while I work out a plotting snag. Instead, I have been working on Being Kimberly, the journey ends, and the adventure begins.  Also, I have a couple of short stories out there on Vella, the Amazon short story platform.  "God, Engineering, and Design" and "A Squirrel's Tale" are the titles.  Look them up.  fun reads.
Christmas 2023 is 2 days away. and I cannot believe I have recently turned 70. Starting a new decade of life with a new outlook and a new heart.

That's it for now. I will be back soon.
