October 12, 2024.  

The last month of my seventh Decade.  Come November, I will begin my 71st year on the good spaceship Earth.  October has been eventful.  Florida has been slammed by two powerful hurricanes in less than 10 days. The east coast from Florida up to Virginia was ravaged by Hurricane Helene, only to be followed a short time later by Hurricane Milton on the west coast.  Helene landed in the Big Bend of Florida, quickly fled into the Atlantic, and ripped up the Eastern United States. Wind Damage and major flooding events all along the East Coast.  Milton made landfall just south of Tampa Bay, whipped across the state and out into the Atlantic. 

The Politicians have gone crazy dishing out lie after lie about the other side.  this misinformation hurts everybody.  It was told about that the current administration had used all the disaster money to feed and house illegal immigrants. and there was no money for the survivors of the two storms. Not true.  It was said that FEMA was only giving 750 dollars to the disaster victims because they were out of money.  again, not true.  One House of Representatives member from Georgia said in Public over public media that "They are controlling the weather and aiming the hurricanes at all the RED States.  Not only an untruth, but wild imagination gone amok. give her a break. She can't help being dumb and now we know she is a natural blonde.  The idea that we could generate enough energy to create a hurricane and steer it is completely ridiculous.  

I did plot out a story back in the early 90's about a team of engineers in cooperation with Meteorologists and the US Navy with a scheme to lower the trigger point of the hurricanes and therefore essentially cause them to fall apart. The working title of the book was "Operation Pegasus:  To Tame the Wild Wind". I chose at that time not to write the story because I convinced myself that not only was my theory sound but also that it could be adapted to steer the storms and intensify them so they could be used as weapons of war.  I did not want that technology to fall into the wrong hands. I think about Tom Clancy and his book that described using a 747 jetliner as a guided missile and I just know how he felt when the world trade center buildings came down on 9/11.  Maybe I need to write that story now. I don't know.  I do have several other books pressing me so maybe not yet.  The Daisy Chain Murders is crying out for me to start and so is the "Return of Dakar"

To paraphrase my hero and fav writer, RAH, "The Words Must Roll", and they will.
